DotList Privacy Policy

This policy explains how DotList handles information. It covers the App Store app and beta versions distributed through Apple's TestFlight service. Features described here apply when they are available in the version you use.

1. The short version

• Private lists stay in local app storage. Installing or updating DotList does not upload them for collaboration.
• If you choose to collaborate on a list, DotList sends that list's content and changes through Apple's iCloud service so invited people can use it together.
• You do not need a DANZ L.L.C. account. Collaboration requires an Apple Account with iCloud available.
• DotList has no ads, advertising identifiers, third-party tracking, or third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
• Apple handles downloads, purchases, refunds, backups, and its own diagnostics. TestFlight also gives us beta usage information, crash reports, and feedback as described below.
• We receive information you choose to send us for support.

2. Your lists and settings

Private lists

List names, items, completion and pin status, private reminders, appearance settings, and other app settings are stored on your device. DotList does not upload ordinary private lists to its collaboration service. We do not run separate company servers to host your list content.

DotList keeps local backup and recovery copies to help protect against data loss. Readable older copies may contain items that you later changed or deleted. Deleting an item or list from the current view does not necessarily remove every older recovery copy immediately.

Your device's backups are separate from DotList collaboration. Depending on your settings, Apple may store app data in an iCloud or computer backup. We do not control Apple's backup systems. Private lists are not automatically synchronized between devices by DotList.

Collaborative lists

In versions that support collaboration, choosing Share → Collaborate starts a separate sharing process for the selected list. DotList uses Apple's iCloud/CloudKit service to store and synchronize:

• The shared list's title.
• Item text, completion status, pin status, and item order.
• Internal list and item identifiers and the technical information needed to prepare and synchronize the list.

Apple also manages record metadata, invitations, authorized participants, and sharing permissions. The list title may appear in Apple's invitation interface. People with access can read the list; people with editing access can change it.

DotList may show participant names in Apple's sharing controls and initials in the shared-list view, using information Apple makes available to your account. Apple's sharing metadata can be kept locally as part of the information needed to maintain the collaboration. DotList does not build a separate contact directory or add participant identities to its custom list records, exports, widgets, analytics, or sync diagnostics. Initials do not indicate that someone is online or has recently opened the list.

DotList keeps a local collaboration cache and pending changes so a shared list can remain usable when a connection is unavailable. This storage is separate from private-list recovery storage and is associated with the relevant iCloud account. Signing out or changing accounts does not itself delete cloud lists. Local recovery information for a previous account may remain on the device, but DotList does not display that account's shared content under another account.

Your other private lists, private recovery copies, themes, purchase status, notification settings, selected list, and the order of lists in your list switcher are not shared collaboration fields.

Reminders are available only on private lists. Completing collaboration setup removes reminders from that list; canceling setup leaves the original private list and its reminders unchanged. Stopping sharing does not restore removed reminders. You can create new reminders after the list is private again.

Stopping, leaving, and deleting a collaboration

The actions in Shared Lists have different effects:

• Stop Sharing, for a list you own, ends access for other participants and keeps a private local copy for you.
• Delete Shared List, for a list you own, deletes the cloud collaboration and its associated local owner copy and removes access for participants.
• Delete All Shared Lists I Own applies that deletion to your owned collaborations. It leaves unrelated private lists and lists shared with you unchanged. An unfinished collaboration draft is canceled without deleting its original private list.
• Leave, for a list someone shared with you, removes your access and the received content from your active collaboration storage. It does not delete the owner's list.

Cloud actions require communication with Apple and may need to finish when connectivity returns. Removing access cannot erase copies or screenshots someone has already saved outside the collaboration. Uninstalling DotList does not by itself delete cloud collaborations, device backups, or exported copies.

Copies and exports

Send Copy creates a snapshot of the selected list. It does not create a live collaboration. Export Data creates a readable file that can include accessible shared lists and readable local recovery copies, including older content. The export does not include collaborator identities.

DotList does not upload an export automatically. If you send or save it through another app or service, that destination handles the copy under its own privacy practices. Copies saved outside DotList are not changed or deleted when the original list changes. Avoid including information you do not intend to share.

3. Apple services, purchases, and beta testing

Apple processes App Store downloads, payments, refunds, and purchase restoration. DotList uses Apple's purchase information to determine whether Pro features are available. DANZ L.L.C. does not receive your payment-card details from these purchases.

Apple may process backup, usage, performance, and crash information under its own terms and your applicable device settings. DotList does not send app usage or diagnostic reports to a separate DANZ L.L.C. analytics service. Its internal sync diagnostics omit list titles, item text, reminders, invitation links, and participant details.

If you test DotList through TestFlight, Apple automatically collects beta usage information and crash logs and shares them with us. This can include device and operating-system information and, depending on how you joined, your name and email address. Feedback and screenshots you submit through TestFlight are also shared with us. We use this information to find problems and improve DotList, and do not share TestFlight tester information with third parties. Apple controls retention within its TestFlight service. Any copies of beta reports or feedback we retain outside Apple's service are handled as support records under the retention policy below.

4. Support emails and direct messages

If you contact us, we may receive your email address, your name if included, your message, screenshots or attachments, and other information you choose to provide. The email or messaging service you use transmits this information. DotList does not automatically attach your lists to a support request.

We use support information to respond, troubleshoot problems, improve DotList, and maintain appropriate business records. We may keep support messages and retained beta reports or feedback for up to 4 years, or longer if reasonably necessary for legal, security, dispute-resolution, tax, accounting, or compliance purposes. We may delete them sooner when no longer needed.

5. Purposes and legal bases

Where privacy laws require a legal basis, we process information as necessary to provide the app features you request, including optional collaboration; for our legitimate interests in providing support, finding and fixing problems, and maintaining appropriate business records; and to meet applicable legal obligations. Where consent is required, we rely on that consent.

DANZ L.L.C. does not use DotList to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

6. Sharing of information

We do not sell or rent personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, use advertising networks, or collect advertising identifiers or precise location through DotList.

When you collaborate, Apple processes the selected list and authorized participants can access it. When you send a copy or export, the people and services you choose receive that copy.

Information you send directly to us may be disclosed in these limited circumstances:

• Service providers: email, hosting, storage, or business tools that process information as needed to provide services to us.
• Legal or safety reasons: when required by law or legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or security or prevent abuse.
• Business transfers: relevant business records may be transferred in a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or asset transfer.

Apple's separate handling of its services is governed by Apple's terms and privacy policies. The TestFlight restriction described above applies to TestFlight tester information.

7. International transfers

DANZ L.L.C. is located in the United States. If you contact us from another country, your message and related information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. Data-protection laws may differ from those where you live.

Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards or legal bases for international transfers, such as contractual protections, adequacy decisions, or other lawful transfer mechanisms. Apple processes information for iCloud, TestFlight, purchases, backups, and its other services under its own terms, safeguards, and privacy policies.

8. Security

DotList is designed to limit data use to its features. Local files use Apple's device security protections; shared lists use Apple's CloudKit service and its access controls.

Keep your device, passcode, Apple Account, and backups secure, and share lists only with people you intend to give access. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. We use reasonable measures appropriate to the information we process.

9. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of, or obtain a portable copy of personal information, and to receive information about its collection and use. You may also have the right to confirm that we do not sell personal information or share it for behavioral advertising.

For local and collaborative list content, the app controls described above let you manage lists, sharing, and exports. Apple provides controls for your Apple Account, backups, and its services. Copies retained by other people or services are outside DotList's control.

To make a request about information handled by DANZ L.L.C., including support messages or TestFlight information available to us, email contact@danzllc.com with Privacy Request in the subject line. We may need to verify your request and will respond within the time required by applicable law. Contacting us does not automatically delete a collaboration; use the appropriate list action when possible and tell us if you need help.

10. California and other U.S. state notices

The information described in this policy includes identifiers in support messages and beta invitations, information you provide for support, beta usage and diagnostic information supplied through Apple, and content you choose to put in a collaboration. These are used to provide requested features, respond to support requests, troubleshoot problems, maintain security and reliability, and meet legal obligations.

We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. DotList does not ask for sensitive personal information, but free-form list content or messages may contain information you choose to enter. Consider what a list contains before sharing it.

11. EU/EEA and UK notice

DANZ L.L.C. is the controller for personal information it receives directly, such as support emails or other messages you choose to send. Apple operates the Apple services described above under its own terms and privacy policies.

Under the GDPR or UK GDPR, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection, and the right to complain to your local supervisory authority. To exercise applicable rights, email contact@danzllc.com with Privacy Request in the subject line.

12. Children

DotList is not directed to children under 13, or any higher age required by local law. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children. If a parent or guardian believes a child has provided personal information to us, contact contact@danzllc.com, and we will take appropriate steps to delete it. Shared-list and backup controls are described above.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version at danzllc.com/privacy-policy and update its effective date. We will communicate material changes where required by law.
